COPAC Launches Solidarity Economy Movement Grass Roots Activist Guide!

At the 1st South African international solidarity economy conference COPAC will launch  a grass roots activist guide to build the solidarity economy movement from below. The solidarity economy and movement is an alternative to the top down and financialised BEE led approach to cooperatives in South Africa. Consistent with COPAC's bottom up approach the guide is about building an education and knowledge centered activist practice. The guides starting point is understanding the crisis of capitalism and the need for transformative alternatives like the solidarity economy. Besides taking activists through the vision, values, principles and activist concepts of the solidarity economy there is a strong emphasis on the foundational tools for the solidarity economy and movement. In this regard the guide provides an introduction to worker cooperatives, solidarity economy financing and education cooperatives. COPAC is willing to facilitate learning processes for activists, movements, community organisations and communities interested in advancing the solidarity economy alternative from below. See training and movement building tools section of the website for more information.
